Registered Dental Hygienists will provide a complete periodontal examination including gingival probing. Treatment provided may include tooth prophylaxis, scaling, root-planing, fluoride, and oral hygiene instruction. There is a definite emphasis on patient comfort throughout the appointment. With three full time and two part time hygienists at Dr. Horricks Family Dentistry, as well as evening appointments available on Mondays and Wednesdays, we will strive to accommodate your schedule.
The team at Dr. Horricks Family Dentistry use both composite (white) fillings and amalgam (silver) fillings depending on the location, nature of the filling, and other considerations. White fillings are best for front teeth where they will match the tooth in which they are placed. Silver fillings are best suited for areas where isolation of the restoration proves difficult. Please feel free to discuss the best choice of filling for your tooth with Dr. Horricks or Dr. Lafleur.
Sealants are thin plastic fillings that are placed into the deep grooves of adult teeth once they erupt into the mouth. They are intended to prevent cavities from starting within the deep grooves of molars/premolars and are recommended for most children as they undergo the development of their dentition. Because they do not require any dental freezing, children tolerate the procedure very well.
Veneers are lab-processed (porcelain) or direct (composite) restorations that are placed on the outside surface of your front teeth to improve the overall appearance of your teeth including the shape and/or whiteness of your teeth.
Crowns are used to restore and rebuild badly broken teeth, teeth that have existing fractures with large restorations, or teeth that have had root canals and are at risk of future fracture. The team at Dr. Horricks Family Dentistry offer three types of crowns: full gold, white porcelain fused to gold, and all-porcelain crowns with no metal in them. Dr. Horricks or Dr. Lafleur would be happy to discuss the type of crown that best suits your needs.
Bridges are used to replace missing teeth by utilizing adjacent teeth as support. Much like crowns, they can be made from gold, porcelain fused to gold, or all-porcelain depending on the location and nature of the bridge. Bridges are one of three options for replacing missing teeth along with dental implants and removable prosthetics (dentures).
When a tooth dies it can be a very painful process. Root canals remove the dead tissue and possible infection from the inside of a tooth so that the bone and gums that support the tooth can heal. In most cases, teeth that have root canals are more prone to future cracking/fracture and ideally must also have a crown done to this prevent this occurrence.
A dental implant is a titanium screw that is carefully placed into the upper or lower jaw bone and then restored with a crown at a later date after healing has been completed. The procedure is minimally invasive and patients tend to feel very comfortable post-operatively. Dental implant placement at Dr. Horricks Family Dentistry is provided by Dr. Tim Barter. Dental implants can be treatment planned to replace single teeth, multiple teeth, and even support existing dentures.
Dentures are removable prosthetics fabricated from either metal/acrylic or all acrylic that are intended to replace some or all of your teeth. Dr. Horricks and Dr. Lafleur work closely with denturists and dental labs to make sure our patients receive all necessary denture-related treatment.
Dr. Horricks and Dr. Lafleur are both competent and comfortable in the removal of intact or badly broken down teeth. In difficult to remove situations, such as when the teeth are impacted (covered by bone and/or soft tissue), a referral will be made to Dr. Tim Barter. Dr. Barter is a dentist, with advanced training in general practice, who has focused his practice towards dental surgery and is competent in treatment of even the most difficult cases. To make the experience more convenient for you, Dr. Barter comes to our office once or twice a month to provide this treatment, saving you a trip elsewhere. Dr. Barter also provides IV sedation to make the experience more comfortable for you.
IV sedation (Intravenous Sedation) is provided by Dr. Tim Barter and a registered nurse for surgical procedures including wisdom teeth removal, soft and hard tissue grafting procedures, and placement of dental implants should a patient prefer. A consult with Dr. Barter is required before treatment. Dr. Horricks and Dr. Lafleur DO NOT provide IV sedation for general dental procedures. Should you need sedation, Dr. Horricks and Dr. Lafleur can provide you with an oral sedative prescription or refer you to a clinic elsewhere that does provide these options for general dentistry.
Dr. Horricks Family Dentistry offers a take-home kit for whitening your teeth with professional grade bleach.
If you suffer from bruxism (grinding or clenching you teeth at night), Dr. Horricks or Dr. Lafleur can fabricate a Splint (or Night Guard) which is a thin plastic bite plate you wear on your teeth at night to prevent grinding and help relax your jaw muscles. If you play sports you are most likely required to wear a sports guard. Dr. Horricks and Dr. Lafleur are also happy to provide you with a professionally made and fitted sports guard.
A snore appliance is an intra oral appliance worn at night that comfortably advances the lower jaw into a more forward position. This allows better airflow through your airway and can reduce instances of snoring and/or mild sleep apnea. Dr. Horricks and Dr. Lafleur will request you see your family physician for a sleep study beforehand to ensure you do not have moderate to severe sleep apnea before prescribing and treating your snoring with a snore appliance.
